Blue Chip Indulgence: A Harmonious Blend of Classic and Modern Design

An Elegant Old English Ambiance Meets Modern French Fusion Cuisine

The uniqueness of Blue Chip Indulgence lies in its ability to prioritize both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The fixtures and fittings, such as the wine rack and screens, serve dual purposes of display and privacy screening. The dining furniture is easily adjustable, allowing the restaurant to accommodate different functions within its vicinity. The selection of materials and colors further enhances the elegant and welcoming ambiance, catering to the various needs of the clients.

To bring this design to life, Chaos Design Studio employed a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. Starting from freehand sketches, the team meticulously planned the layout and operating flow of the restaurant. With the aid of AutoCAD and 3D Max, they examined the practicality of accommodating round forms, ensuring precise measurements and proportions for each element.

The technical specifications of Blue Chip Indulgence include a total built-up area of 3824 sqft, with 2188 sqft indoors and 1636 sqft outdoors. The design team paid attention to every detail, ensuring that all furniture and fittings were produced and presented with consideration. Techniques were employed to facilitate the evaporation of water vapor in limestone bricks, while dual usage fixtures, such as the wine rack made from metal rods, added both aesthetic elegance and practical functionality. Shipping containers were repurposed as a storage room and planting area, showcasing the team's commitment to sustainability.

The restaurant's layout promotes seamless interaction between customers and staff. Separate entrances for customers and the service crew ensure smooth flow, while the VIP room, adjacent to the courtyard, offers a private and exclusive dining experience. The waiting area and screens also minimize undesired interaction, creating a greater sense of privacy for guests.

Blue Chip Indulgence was completed on 31st May 2019 at BLANC Restaurant Macalister Mansion in Penang, Malaysia. Throughout the project, the design team conducted extensive research to gracefully combine classical aspects with modern elements. They also addressed the challenge of dampness in load-bearing walls, commonly found in old colonial buildings, by implementing effective solutions that maintained the elegance and warmth of the Old English style.

Blue Chip Indulgence is a testament to the harmonious marriage between classic and modern design. The curated ambiance, created through custom-made furniture and fixtures with fine detailing, allows the restaurant to serve customers flexibly while providing privacy and enjoyment for all types of guests. This exceptional design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding creativity and resourcefulness in incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
